A Restaurant Worker’s Fight for Justice

New Haven, Connecticut, USASaturday, July 4, 2026

A Pattern of Alleged Misconduct Spanning Months

A worker from New Haven has filed a lawsuit against Union League Café, accusing the establishment of failing to protect him from repeated harassment that culminated in an alleged physical assault on his final day in February 2025.

The Alleged Assault: An Unprovoked Attack

The plaintiff claims that on his last day, a coworker locked him in a bathroom, pinned him down, and allegedly touched his private parts. When he reported the incident to police and management, he says no action was taken.

But this was not an isolated event.

A History of Alleged Abuse

Months earlier, in October 2024, the same coworker allegedly:

  • Punched him without provocation
  • Made crude jokes about his body
  • Later shouted derogatory remarks, including calling him a "stupid American,"
  • Even sang loudly at him, escalating the harassment

When these incidents were reported to human resources, the coworker received only a warning—no further disciplinary action.

Retaliation and Forced Resignation

By February 2025, the worker inquired about a long-promised promotion to server. Instead of advancement, he claims the manager threatened to fire him if he left his shift. He was allegedly pressured into signing a resignation letter, making it appear as though he quit voluntarily.

A Fight for Accountability

Frustrated by the lack of response, the worker filed complaints with state and federal equal-employment agencies. His lawsuit argues that Union League Café failed to protect him or punish the harassers, resulting in anxiety, depression, and lost wages.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for emotional distress, lost wages, and punitive damages, naming the entire restaurant group as the defendant. A request for comment was sent to the café, but no response has been received.

Will justice be served? The court will decide.
