Detective Hudson makes a comeback to Hudson & Rex after health fight
Detective Charlie Hudson Returns in a Bold Revival
The beloved crime drama Hudson & Rex is making waves with a highly anticipated ninth season. After exiting the show in season eight, Detective Charlie Hudson (John Reardon) is set to return—this time with a dramatic twist tied to a major storyline.
Filming begins in June in St. John’s, Newfoundland, marking a fresh start for the series. Reardon’s departure last year was not his choice, as he revealed the production team shifted direction after he took a break in 2024 due to tonsil cancer, which he has since recovered from.
But Hudson’s return isn’t just a reunion—it’s a mission-driven comeback. The last time fans saw him, he was in South America searching for his missing brother, Jack. Now, he’s back in St. John’s with one final task before leaving again, disrupting the team’s dynamics and throwing Rex, the K9 cop, into uncharted territory.
A Changed Team, A Legacy Continued
Behind the scenes, Hudson & Rex has undergone its own evolution. The original K9 star, Diesel von Burgimwald, who played Rex, passed away during season seven. Now, his relatives—Dillon, Dante, and others—are stepping into the role, ensuring the beloved dog’s legacy lives on.
Season nine will feature 12 new episodes, with the core cast intact, including Mayko Nguyen, Kevin Hanchard, Justin Kelly, and Luke Roberts, who joined as Detective Mark Hudson in Reardon’s absence.
When to Watch
Fans can catch the new season this fall on CityTV in Canada. Meanwhile, the current season is already airing in the U.S. on UP Faith & Family, starting June 11.
With unexpected returns, emotional stakes, and a fresh mystery, Hudson & Rex season nine is poised to keep audiences hooked.
