Free Admission for South LA Neighbors at New Museum

Los AngelesThursday, July 16, 2026

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, located in Exposition Park, is set to open its doors to the public in September. As part of its mission to create a sense of community, the museum will offer free admission to residents living in the 90037 ZIP code. This pass program, launching in August, allows residents to reserve free tickets for themselves and one guest.

The museum's grand opening is scheduled for September 22, but local residents, community partners, and business owners are invited to a Community Preview Day on September 13. This exclusive event offers a first look at the facility, showcasing its unique architecture and beautiful 11-acre park.

The museum's founders envisioned a space where storytelling brings people together. With over 1,200 artworks on display, the museum explores the art of narrative through various mediums, from prehistoric cave paintings to modern screen art.

Some of the exhibitions include a showcase of Star Wars props, costumes, and vehicle designs. Other galleries feature works by renowned artists such as Jack Kirby, Alison Bechdel, Thomas Hart Benton, and Norman Rockwell. The museum also highlights Japanese manga and anime, children's book illustrations, and photography by Dorothea Lange and Gordon Parks.

The museum's goal is to make everyone feel welcome. To achieve this, a portion of tickets for the preview event will be distributed through community organizations and local government officials. This way, the museum can engage with the local community and build a connection with its neighbors.
