From Mobster to Motivated
Joe Gannascoli, best known for his role as Vito on The Sopranos, is on a mission to transform his physique. At 67, he's aiming to shed 40 pounds in just four months to get camera-ready for a new TV project based on his Mafia-themed cookbook. His goal is to drop from 250 to 210 pounds, and he's taking a multi-faceted approach to achieve it. Gannascoli starts his day with a 6 a.m. golf game on Long Island's south shore, followed by a game of pickleball or a gym session. He's focusing on strength training, hitting every body part four times a week with heavier weights and fewer reps.
His diet is also undergoing a significant overhaul. Gone are the days of stress-eating baby carrots; instead, Gannascoli is embracing a strict regimen of made meals, salads, and intermittent fasting. He rarely eats after 2 p.m. and has cut down on red meat. This new approach to health and fitness is a far cry from his past struggles with weight and addiction. At his heaviest, Gannascoli tipped the scales at 400 pounds, struggling with bad hips and sleep apnea.
But Gannascoli's journey to wellness is more than just physical. He's also overcome a decades-long battle with gambling, quitting after 50 years. The addiction had cost him his Bay Ridge restaurant, 101 Seafood, but ultimately led him to pursue acting in Los Angeles. Today, Gannascoli feels more confident and motivated than ever. He's proud of the progress he's made and credits his newfound lifestyle for making him look and feel better than he did during his time on The Sopranos.
Gannascoli's passion for acting and cooking has led him to create engaging content. He successfully pitched the idea of Vito's character arc as a closeted gay Mafioso, which became a significant part of the show. His experience and creativity have made him a valuable asset in the entertainment industry.
With his new TV project on the horizon, Gannascoli is more focused than ever on his health and well-being. He's taking it one day at a time, enjoying the journey and learning new things along the way. His transformation is a testament to the power of determination and hard work.
