Heat Wave Hits Kingston

Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac IslandsMonday, July 13, 2026

A heat warning has been issued for Kingston and surrounding areas, including Odessa and Frontenac Islands. Hot and humid weather is expected to start on Monday and last until at least Wednesday evening, and possibly into Thursday.

The heat warning takes effect on Monday at 10 a.m. Temperatures will soar to 30 C to 36 C during the day and only drop to 20 C to 23 C at night. The humidex, which takes into account both temperature and humidity, is expected to reach 38 to 45.

Tuesday is forecast to be the hottest day. Some areas might even reach 36 C. This kind of heat can be dangerous, especially for older adults, people who live alone, and those with certain health conditions.

Prolonged heat can also make air quality worse. The Air Quality Health Index might get high enough to be considered a health risk. People are advised to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. They should also keep their homes as cool as possible and avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day.

If someone starts feeling unwell from the heat, they should stop what they're doing, go to a cooler place, and drink water. Heat exhaustion can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. If someone's skin is hot and red, they're confused, dizzy, or nauseous, they need medical help right away.

People without air conditioning are encouraged to go to public places like libraries, community centers, or shaded parks to cool off. It's also important to never leave kids, pets, or anyone else alone in a parked car. The heat event is expected to end by Wednesday or Thursday evening.
