Kratom's Widespread Reach

Kratom is widely available in vape shops across the US, despite posing potential health risks. The plant, which can cause liver toxicity, seizures, and dependence, is sold in many shops. A recent investigation found that out of 520 vape shops contacted across all 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico, 71.5% carried kratom.

The investigation, which involved calling vape shops in November and December 2023, revealed that 153 shops provided brand information. Among the 129 brands reported, OPMS was the most widely available, found in 90.20% of shops across 42 states and territories. Remarkable Herb and MIT 45 were also popular, available in 34.64% and 33.33% of shops, respectively.

The widespread presence of kratom brands across different states and territories raises concerns about federal law violations. It appears that many businesses are engaging in interstate commerce, which is currently illegal. This lack of regulation and enforcement is alarming, especially given the potential health risks associated with kratom use.
