Louisiana's Education Surge

Louisiana's education system is on the rise. The state's latest LEAP scores show a record high of 36% of students meeting or exceeding state expectations in 2026. This progress is a testament to the hard work of students, teachers, and educators across the state.

While the progress is encouraging, there is still work to be done. Gaps between groups of students need to be closed, with 22% of Black students and 29% of Hispanic students meeting state expectations compared to 49% of White students.

Educators are being credited for the reading gains, with teachers trained in the science of reading and schools assessing young students' reading skills. The state's approach, which combines accountability and support, has been cited as a key factor in the state's success.
