Meth, Guns, and a Second Chance
Francis "Mookie" Williams, a 33-year-old Birmingham resident, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for drug and gun convictions. This comes on top of a previous murder conviction from 2013. Williams pleaded guilty in March to distributing methamphetamine and carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
In 2023, Williams sold methamphetamine to an undercover informant not once, but twice. During one of these transactions, he showed off a black pistol. This didn't go unnoticed, and by September 2023, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency had issued arrest warrants for him. It took until January 26, 2025, for the U.S. Marshals to track him down and arrest him at a residence in Birmingham.
What happened next was a game-changer. A search of the property turned up not one, but two pistols - a SCCY 9mm and a Glock 9mm. The Glock had a machinegun-conversion device, also known as a "Glock switch." Both guns had been reported stolen, one from Homewood in November 2023 and the other from Birmingham in September 2021.
The authorities are clear: violent individuals who continue to commit crimes will face the full force of the law. "Those who choose to engage in drug trafficking while illegally arming themselves with stolen weapons will be identified, investigated, and held accountable," says Steven N. Schrank, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Georgia and Alabama.
Williams will serve his 20-year sentence, followed by 10 years of supervised release. The case sends a strong message: crime and violence won't be tolerated. The investigation was a team effort, involving Homeland Security Investigations, USMS, ALEA, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel S. McBrayer.
