Michigan District Race Loses a Contender

MichiganTuesday, July 14, 2026

A new development has emerged in Michigan's 90th District House race. Jordan Youngquist, a small business owner from Kent City, has dropped out of the Republican primary. He was one of four candidates vying for the seat held by Rep. Bryan Posthumus, who is not seeking re-election.

Youngquist's decision to exit the race came after careful consideration. He met with Susannah Watts, a certified registered nurse anesthetist and small business owner, and decided to endorse her. Watts is now competing against former Rep. Lynn Afendoulis and Andrew Jackson Willis, a Rockford pastor.

The winner of the August 4 primary will face Democrat Rachel Crowther, who is unopposed in her party's primary. Michigan's 90th district includes Rockford and several surrounding townships.

Voters who have already cast their ballots with Youngquist's name on them have an option to 'spoil' their ballot. This process allows them to mark their ballot invalid and request a new one. For more information on how to do this, residents can visit mi.gov/vote.

The district's voters are now left with three Republican candidates to choose from. Susannah Watts brings a unique blend of medical and business experience to the table. Lynn Afendoulis, a former representative, and Andrew Jackson Willis, a local pastor, also have their own visions for the district.

The 90th district is comprised of several communities, each with its own character and needs. The next representative will have to address issues specific to Rockford, Sparta, Alpine, and other townships.

Residents can still make their voices heard by casting their ballots in the primary election. The outcome will determine who will represent the district in the House.
