Navigating Care with AI

New York CityThursday, July 16, 2026

In a city where healthcare is always on the go, one of New York City's largest medical centers faced a big challenge. Patients with new symptoms didn't know where to turn for help. This led to delayed care, unnecessary visits to clinics and emergency rooms, and a waste of resources. To fix this, the medical center turned to artificial intelligence for a solution.

They wanted a digital tool that could guide patients to the right care. After searching the market, they chose a platform built with the help of a renowned expert in telephone triage. This platform used a combination of natural language processing and clinical expertise to help patients navigate their care. It was launched on the medical center's website and mobile app in early 2023.

The results were impressive. Over 60,000 people visited the site, and about 22,000 completed a digital triage session. Patients loved it, giving it a usability score of 85.5 and rating it 8 out of 10. Many used it outside of business hours, and there were no reported safety incidents.

The medical center also compared the AI triage results with those of human clinicians. The concordance rate was between 88% and 96%. This showed that the AI tool was not only popular but also reliable.

The team behind this project shared their journey, challenges, and metrics. They created a roadmap that other organizations can follow, no matter their technical readiness. This paves the way for more healthcare providers to adopt similar AI-driven solutions.
