One key finding was that a specific class of medications, SGLT2 inhibitors, was linked to a lower risk of iron deficiency anemia and dementia in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Over a 17-year period, there's been a notable drop in cardiovascular events among newly diagnosed patients.

However, there's a gap between what guidelines recommend and how often certain medications, like GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors, are actually prescribed to patients with established cardiovascular disease.

The studies also found associations between different classes of glucose-lowering medications and cerebrovascular outcomes.
