Patriotism on Stage

United StatesSaturday, July 11, 2026
This year, patriotic art is getting a lot of attention. A new orchestral work called "The Ronald Reagan Overture" was performed at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California. The piece celebrates the life of the 40th U.S. President, featuring music from his movie career and speeches. The performance was part of a bigger concert marking America's 250th anniversary. The orchestra, New West Symphony, received a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to create the work.
The NEA has always funded a wide range of artistic projects, but this year, it's focusing on national pride and celebrating American heroes. The "National Garden of American Heroes" is a sculpture park featuring 250 life-size statues of notable American figures, including Reagan, Muhammad Ali, and Susan B. Anthony. The project is still in the proposal phase.
