Summer Nights in Akron
The city of Akron is buzzing with excitement as the summer concert series, Downtown@Dusk, kicks off its 42nd season. For four Thursday evenings, from July 10 to July 30, music lovers can gather in the Bud and Susie Rodgers Garden at the Akron Art Museum to enjoy free concerts.
The series promises an eclectic mix of genres, getting things started with Wishgarden, an indie roots-rock band known for their energetic performances. With a blend of original songs and rearranged classics, they're sure to get the crowd moving. Their recent single, "Kiss Me Slow," has been gaining traction, and their music video for "In 50 Years" has won several awards.
On July 16, The Shootouts take the stage, bringing their unique sound, which combines Rust Belt Americana, roots rock, and country music. This Akron-based band has performed at some of the biggest music festivals, including The Grand Ol' Opry and South By Southwest. July 23 is all about Umojah Nation, a roots reggae band that's been a staple in Northeast Ohio for 20 years. With their infectious beats and energetic live performances, they're sure to get the crowd dancing. The band has opened for international reggae acts like The Wailers and Morgan Heritage.
The series wraps up on July 30 with 15 60 75 The Numbers Band, a Kent-based band that's been making music for 55 years.
